Most sleep trackers count hours. Jonathan "JB" Berent set out to measure something else: slow waves, the deep brain activity that actually restores the body overnight. He built NextSense, a pair of EEG-sensing earbuds that read brainwaves and use targeted sound to help extend that restorative stage of sleep. One early user, a menopausal investor who could barely sleep two hours at a stretch, became one of NextSense's first backers after weeks of real relief. Another user liked the earbuds enough to pass them along to his boss, the CEO of one of the world's largest consulting firms.
